January 2019

January 2019 hasn’t been the best month, wheelchair issues, care issues (when I don’t keep nagging the agency), Mum has had an operation on her knee, I’ve been feeling very stressed and my anxiety has been high, this along with feeling generally ill and low has meant I haven’t got out much.

This last week I’ve been feeling slightly better so have pushed myself to get up and go out, even if it takes twice as long as usual with Mum not acting as second carer, it’s nearly two hours, to get dressed, out of bed and ready to go!

Early this week I managed a trip to the park in town for a few hours, my anxiety wasn’t the best but I needed to force myself, I really needed to get back to my photography and this was somewhere close I could gently ease myself back in.

A wet and muddy woodland path in the rain at Croome

The next day I plucked up the courage to visit Croome, my first time out of Cheltenham since December, I was intending to take some photos but it poured down, the camera had  rain cover but I was just too cold and wet to take any pictures, I managed a couple on my phone but that was it.  Even though I was soaked and frozen it was good to get out and lifted my mood somewhat.

Yesterday I decided to visit WWT Slimbridge, with my chair cutting out occasionally and it being so cold I’m playing it safe and sticking to wheelchair accessible places where I can easily be rescued and hopefully won’t end up hypothermic if I do break down.  It turned out to be a beautiful day, although cold, which allowed me to finally take some photos, the only issue I had was my ventilator mask and hose filling up with condensation a few times, I don’t enjoy holding my breath while it’s emptied but at this time of year it’s do that or just stay inside until Spring.

February will be a busier month for me with various meetings and medical appointments, in March some of my photos will be part of an exhibition in museum in the park in Stroud, this will be showing photographs created by people who were on the mindful photography course sponsored by Artlift and run by Ruth Davey, if anyone is interested in coming along the details are below.
